Since the beginning of 2015, I have been teaching English to a few students I found whilst using the Blabmate platform.
In Googling online teaching, I have found a few other useful links, which I thought I would share here.
British Council on teaching English online
This is a truly excellent post about the pitfalls and opportunities when teaching English online – so many useful links buried within this article, too.
Similarly to Blabmate, I understand this is an alternative method of finding students online. A word of warning with such platforms is that students are often unaware / can’t read the instructions about the cost, however prominent the platform makes your lesson charge on its pages, so do beware of receiving multiple requests for free lessons.
Jack set up his own English-teaching website and has been teaching exclusively online for a few years now. His website offers all sorts of useful hints and tips, as well as a free downloadable eBook and a very regularly-maintained blog. There is even a bespoke course for setting up your own website, and the whole experience seems very professional and personalised.
Another example of a company founded by some native speakers of English who want to ‘inspire, empower, and connect the world through English, both online and in-person.’ Similarly to Jack’s website (above), these guys seem to post regularly and have some good realia resources on their page. They even have RealLifeTV and RealLifeRadio, which I thought was quite impressive!
